Brighton Gay Men’s Chorus packed out The Brighton Dome with their pre-Christmas concert ‘Pull A Cracker’ in December. The majestic voices of the Chorus joined together to create a spectacular and joyous evening with Zoe Lyons, Lorraine Bowen, Jodie Spencer and guest star June Brown, all bringing their own unique magic to a special event.

The final total raised for The Sussex Beacon was an incredible £5143.66.

Chris Cooke, Head of Finance and Fundraising at The Sussex Beacon said “We are so grateful to the Brighton Gay Men’s Chorus and to all the fantastic artists and additional volunteers who gave their time and talent to raise this incredible sum which will go towards our Beacon Appeal. This was a truly memorable evening and we feel very privileged to have such invaluable community support – our thanks go out to all those people who made this evening possible!”

The next chance to see Brighton Gay Men’s Chorus will be on Friday 4th and Saturday 5th May at 7.30pm for their Brighton Fringe Festival show entitled Guilty Treasures in St Nicholas’ Church, Dyke Road, Brighton. Come join the Chorus in their search for the ultimate gay song!

Tipped as one of the “Highlights of the Fringe 2012” by whatsonstage.com, the Guilty Treasures show is being arranged in association with Brighton and Hove LGBT Switchboard and The Abandoned and Destitute Children’s Appeal Fund. Tickets cost £12 (£10 conc) and are on sale via the Brighton Fringe Festival website: http://boxoffice.brightonfringe.org

About Brighton Gay Men’s Chorus:

Brighton Gay Men’s Chorus was established in 2005 and is a registered charity no. 1137437.

The Chorus has around 50 members and works by its three principals of Singing, Socialising and Support. The Chorus stages at least three main shows a year; at Christmas, during Fringe Festival and for Pride. It also supports a number of smaller local charity and community events throughout the year.

About the Sussex Beacon:

The Sussex Beacon is a dedicated HIV centre, which has been at the forefront of specialist HIV service delivery since 1992. We aim to support people to return to independent living through the provision of innovative and evidence-based services. We provide vital care and support for men and women living with HIV in Sussex and work closely with local NHS service providers. We offer a range of Inpatient and Outpatient services, which have been developed in response to the changing needs of people living with HIV, including a ten bedded Inpatient Unit, Day Service, Cognitive Behavioural Therapies, Treatment Support, Women and Families Service, Mindful Living Services, Complementary Therapies. We aim to achieve a holistic approach to meet the physical, social and psychological needs of clients. It costs 1.9 million per year to maintain our current service levels, 50% of which is raised via our fundraising, our Shops and the goodwill and support of our local community. Our two main fundraising events are the Brighton Half Marathon in February which is our primary fundraiser www.brightonhalfmarathon.com and the Garden Gadabout in June/July www.gardengadabout.org.uk.

The Sussex Beacon recently launched their Beacon Appeal to raise the £150,000 needed to keep their Inpatient Unit open.
