Members of Brighton Gay Men’s Chorus were thrilled when around 25 members of Gloria, Dublin’s biggest LGBT choir, and London’s Pink Singers, the UK’s original LGBT choir, dropped in for a visit to one of their recent Saturday rehearsals. With a delicious lunch served up by volunteers from Lunch Positive, merriment was plentiful as choir members forged friendships and swapped stories before joining together to rehearse a few verses from well known Kylie hit “I Should Be So Lucky”.
Connections between the choirs were strengthened last year when all of the UK and Ireland’s LGBT choirs were invited to take part in the Hand In Hand festival in London last June to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Pink Singers.
Paul Charlton, chairman for Brighton Gay Men’s Chorus, said:
“Building relationships with other LGBT choirs is crucial as we continue to grow as a choir – we can all learn so much from each other and have a great time as well! Getting to know all the guys from Dublin’s Gloria choir was great fun, especially as we will be meeting up again when Brighton Gay Men’s Chorus travels to Dublin in June for the Various Voices international choir festival.”
Hsien Chew from the Pink Singers added:
“What better way is there to make friends than to sing and share a meal together? There’s nothing so exciting as meeting like-minded people who are as passionate about making music as you are; a big thank you to the Brighton Gay Men’s Chorus for hosting the day!”
Barry Dowling, chairman of Dublin’s Gloria, said:
“We all had such a wonderful day with our Brighton brothers. Huge thank you to their Musical Director Marc for helping us to get into our groove. The day and night really had it all, song, dance, food, and so much fun!! We look forward to seeing the Brighton boys at Various Voices Dublin in June.”

ABOUT BRIGHTON GAY MEN’S CHORUS
Brighton Gay Men’s Chorus was established in 2005 and is a registered charity no. 1137437.
The Chorus now has around 80 members and works by its three principles of Singing, Socialising and Support. Its charitable objectives include to promote equality and diversity, to raise public awareness of the LGBT community, and to eliminate discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation and gender identity.
The Chorus stages at least three main shows a year; usually during the Brighton Fringe Festival, Brighton Pride and at Christmas. Their next show, “Nautical But Nice”, is due to take place as part of the Brighton Fringe Festival on 2nd & 3rd May at St. George’s Church, Kemptown.
