BrightonGMC is excited to invite you to its first show of 2017, which it is performing twice during the opening weekend of the Brighton Fringe Festival, on Friday 5th and Saturday 6th May in St George’s Church, Kemptown, Brighton. The Superhero Show will be an explosion of energy, colour and harmonies with a clear mission: to entertain and inspire you.
With that in mind, Musical Director Marc Yarrow and his team, have chosen an array of new songs to represent and celebrate the musical and other superheroes in our lives. The rousing choral arrangements, many of them exclusively commissioned for the Chorus, promise a rich and distinctive musical experience – of a kind that male choirs deliver so powerfully. The Writing and Production Teams, with Creative Director Quintin Young, also have a real cialis treat in store for you to have confidence in bed. They don’t want to give anything away, or spoil the surprise, but let’s just say that local fabric stores have run out of spandex and lycra…
Some of the songs from The Superhero Show draw parallels with the comic book, Love Is Love, published in response to last year’s Pulse nightclub tragedy in Orlando. The 144-page anthology features one- and two-page comic strips by hundreds of famous contributors, including stories about iconic heroes such as Superman, Spiderman, Batman, X-men and many more. After the tragic news of the terror attack targeting LGBTQ people of colour, the Chorus’s video message of support included a performance of our arrangement of Albert Hammond’s and John Bettis’s One Moment In Time (). It is only fitting that the song finds its place in this show, dedicated as it is to superheroes.
Simon Dowe, Chief Executive of The Sussex Beacon said “We are over the moon to be the chosen charity for The Superhero Show. The Sussex Beacon is going through some tough times at the moment following funding cuts and we’re fighting to keep services open. We want to thank the superheroes in the Gay Men’s Chorus for swooping in to help! All funds raised on the night will go directly towards our vital work, helping people living with HIV in Sussex.”
With each production BrightonGMC chooses a charity to support. The Superhero Show is no exception. It will help raise funds in support of The Sussex Beacon, Brighton’s own ‘superhero’ charity, which is currently facing the prospect of having to close some of its services.
Love Is Love is available in most bookstores and online with all proceeds going to Equality Florida, for the people most impacted by the Pulse shooting.

ABOUT BRIGHTON GAY MEN’S CHORUS
Brighton Gay Men’s Chorus was established in January 2005 and has about 100 members. It provides a space where people can celebrate music, enjoy the fellowship of other like-minded people and contribute to the local communities it’s a part of.
The Chorus has three guiding principles, the “Three S’s”:
- Singing – the celebration of life and music through male voice harmonies;
- Socialising – using this activity to develop social bonds that help people to feel connected with a sometimes lonely world; and
- Support – to be there for each other – both collectively and individually – when the chips are down, and to be there for the communities in which the chorus operates, too.
The Chorus is also a registered charity, no. 1171020, with 3 key charitable objectives:
- To promote public education by the study, practice and public performance of choral music; and to assist other charitable causes.
- For the public benefit to advance and promote the education of gay and gay-friendly men in Brighton and Hove in the subject of choral music, its study, practice and performance.
- The promotion of equality and diversity for the public benefit by the elimination of discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation and gender identity, in particular but not exclusively by raising public awareness of discrimination towards and issues affecting the Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) community, and in such other ways as are exclusively charitable as the trustees may from time to time determine.
